About Burnetta
Burnetta is an artist based in Auckland, Aotearoa | New Zealand and often uses her art as a meaning making tool.
Burnetta studied geography and has worked in resource management and planning here and abroad, which perhaps explains why green is a dominant colour in many of her artworks. Green is also the colour of growth and renewal.
The feminine is another inspiration. Alongside Mother Nature (her recurring use of green), her maternal grandmother, mother, and daughter are subjects of her artwork.
Burnetta incorporates Pasifika (reflecting her Samoan side) into many of her artworks and also often uses text. Burnetta has Dutch ancestry as well.
Burnetta is mainly self-taught. While she did take art in secondary school (in fifth form | year 11) Burnetta has not had formal art education. She was inspired to paint again (many years later) after joining an art therapy programme at Dove House in 2019 during her treatment for ovarian cancer.
